African Climate Change Champions

Climate change remains one of the most pressing global challenges of our time. In Africa, the impact of climate change is profound, affecting communities, ecosystems, and livelihoods. In recognition of the critical role played by Africans in driving change and innovation, we aim to celebrate and honour the Top 50 African Climate Change Champions through this project. This is a collaborative initiative between Africa Youth Awards and Avance Media.

Categories:

 

  • Innovators: Individuals or groups developing groundbreaking solutions or technologies addressing climate change challenges.
  • Campaigners: Those leading impactful campaigns raising awareness or advocating for climate change action.
  • Activists: Individuals driving grassroots movements and action-oriented initiatives in their communities.
  • Young Women Leaders: Recognizing the leadership and contributions of young women making a difference in climate action.
  • Youth-led Initiatives: Highlighting organizations or projects founded and led by young people, showcasing their impact on climate change.
  • Community Leaders: Recognizing grassroots influencers driving local climate action, organizing initiatives, and engaging their communities to address climate challenges.
  • Policy Advocates: Highlighting individuals shaping and promoting climate-friendly policies, advocating for sustainable practices, and influencing governmental decisions towards environmental protection.
  • Educators: Celebrating those educating and inspiring others about climate change, designing programs, and imparting knowledge to foster awareness and action for a sustainable future.

Methodology:

 

Nomination Process: Open nominations are solicited from across Africa, inviting submissions detailing the nominee’s work, impact, and achievements in the realm of climate change action.

Expert Panel Selection: A panel of experts in climate change, sustainability, and youth/women empowerment to review nominations and select finalists based on set criteria, such as impact, innovation, scalability, and sustainability of efforts.

Public Engagement: Engage the public through online platforms and social media to generate awareness about the nominees and their work.

Final Selection: The expert panel conducts a final evaluation and selects the Top 50 African Climate Change Champions across the designated categories.

Objective:

 

The project aims to identify, honour, and showcase the efforts and impact of Africans who are actively contributing to climate change solutions in Africa. The focus will be on recognizing their innovation, activism, campaigns, and leadership in tackling climate change issues.
